Two-alarm fire at Garfield Park church extinguished

Investigators were working Monday morning to determine the cause of an overnight extra-alarm blaze at a church in the Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Firefighters responded to reports of a blaze in the 3800 block of West Madison Street in the at about 1 a.m., according to Fire Media Affairs.

When they arrived on the scene, firefighters found the True Temple of Apostolic Faith church fully enveloped by flames, Fire Media Affairs said.

Officials quickly elevated the response to a second alarm, which drew 11 fire vehicles to the scene, Fire Media Affairs said.

Firefighters extinguished the flames a short time later in the 45-foot by 100-foot church.

The CTA rerouted the No. 20 Bus around the fire department activity, but had resumed its normal route shortly after 4 a.m., according to the CTA website.
