CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Three people were arrested Saturday night after a police chase stretching from the West Side to northwest Indiana. Two police cars crashed during the pursuit, but no one was hurt.

The incident started about 11:15 p.m. when Ogden District police officers saw suspects shooting from a vehicle near Ogden and Trumbull Avenues, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said, citing preliminary information.

Officers went after the shooters, who fled onto the Eisenhower Expressway, Alfaro said. The chase eventually ended in Hammond, Ind., where police arrested three suspects.

During the chase, two squad cars crashed on the Eisenhower Expressway near Ashland but no officers were hurt, according to police and Fire Department officials. One of the cars apparently hit a median, though details on the crash were not yet clear.

A Chicago Police Department helicopter assisted in the chase, Alfaro said. It was not immediately clear early Sunday if police are still searching for additional suspects.
