Auburn Gresham neighborhood earns historic distinction

CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

A neighborhood on Chicago's South Side has earned the distinction of being the tenth Bungalow Historic District to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Auburn Gresham joins neighborhoods like South Shore, West Chatham and Wrightwood Boulevard. Historic Chicago Bungalow Association officials say the designation means properties are eligible for an 8-year property tax freeze if they make renovations equal to 25% of the homes' market value.

The National Park Service granted the status to Auburn Gresham after a year-long process. That process involved research and documentation of every home in the neighborhood.
