Bob Sirott's One More Thing about MLB using instant replay

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

One more thing, about Major League Baseball using instant replay.

This week the question about whether baseball should use the technology more is being hotly debated.

Controversial calls in baseball's post season--where every game is so important, have led Yankees Manager Joe Girardi and others to speak out in favor of more video assist for umpires. Currently only questionable home run calls are reviewable.

The commissioner and influential baseball executives like Jerry Reinsdorf are advocates of expanded replay for next season for outfield fair and foul calls, and trapped catches.

I hate the idea. To those who argue that instant replay will take some of the pressure off of the umpires, I say---it'll only make them more nervous. How would you like your boss to prove you made a mistake at work and then show everyone the evidence on television?

Sitting through those long, boring NFL play reviews is bad enough. We don't need baseball bogged down with that too.

The beauty of baseball is, it's like life. You never know when it's going to end. It can be affected by unpredictable factors, like weather. It's the most human of all sports. Normal size people play it. Even if a batter succeeds only three times out of ten, he's considered great, and an umpire's human judgment is part of the game. Keep it that way.
