CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Here are some tips and advice on these affordable, do-it-yourself Halloween costumes straight from Domestic Diva Jane Monzures.
Marie Antoinette:
- This is perfect for the last minute people.
- Go to any HALLOWEEN pop up store and buy a bag costume. They are made well enough to look good, but you can make it your own by embellishing it with fabric and accessories
- Stitch on extra fabric to really make her look exactly like who she is - very French and rebellious.
Medusa:
- It's a simple outfit because it's a thrift store dress. This is a vintage gown, but you can use any green, grey or olive dress in your closet - especially if you have an old bridesmaid dress
- Any medallion necklace will do. I tied a belt bucket to a leather necklace, and got plastic snakes from the toy store.
- Make up is paramount for this costume. Special thanks to Kate Johnson Artistry for their work on Thursday's models.
- Save money and reuse a dress from home, and spend the money on getting your makeup done professionally!
Vegas Showgirl:
- If you are brave enough to wear it, all you need is a bikini top and boy shorts.
- I glued gems on the top and cut a piece of sheer fabric for the wrap. The feathers can be expensive, but I got them at Fancyfeather.com and prices were reasonable.
- Glue feathers in Styrofoam for the tail and head piece. This costume is a show-piece. When you're finished with it, use it as a decorative wall hanging.
Couples costume - Senorita and Matador:
- Add red fabric to a thrift store dress to make it bounce, and stitch gold ribbon to a thrift store men's jacket and pants – or you can glue them instead.
- What really makes this costume is the Day of the Dead Sugar Skull face make up, which is all the rage this year.
Keys to the costumes:
- Halloween is a one and done holiday, so don't spend a ton of money on the costume - focus on the hair and make up to make it stand out.
- Hit the thrift store and fabric stores and invest in a glue gun.
