Volo mother, 2 daughters found in Wisconsin Dells

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Aneta Marsek and her two young daughters were found safe Sunday night. They had been staying in Marsek's SUV, near Wisconsin Dells.

The 33-year-old Volo mother, 2-year-old Chevelle and 4-month-old Macenzie were missing for over a week. The reason why no one could contact her was because she had turned her phone off. Neighbors said this was strange because it seemed like she was usually attached to her phone.

At around 6:55 p.m. on Sunday, Wisconsin Dells police received a call from a gas station attendant. Aneta Marsek had walked into the building asking someone to call the police, because she thought people might be looking for her as a missing person.

Wisconsin Dells police called the Lake County Sheriff's Office, which confirmed that she was in fact missing, and that she was the person they were looking for.

Marsek told police that she had been living in her SUV, near County H and Fitzgerald Road. Police found her children there, and they were all taken to St. Clair Hospital in Barraboo to make sure they were healthy.

Doctors determined the girls were in good health, and released Chevelle and Macenzie into estranged husband Dan Marsek's custody. Marsek was taken to Winnebago Mental Health Facility in Oshkosh.

Marsek told Lake County officers that she left Volo Monday morning because she needed to "get away." She chose Wisconsin Dells because she had fond "childhood memories" of the place.

They were last seen leaving Marsek's parents' home in Wauconda on Oct. 6. They were reported missing by her estranged husband Dan Marsek on Oct. 10.

Aneta Marsek's father, John Czaja, implored the public to find his daughter and two small grandchildren. Her brother WIlliam even asked them to search for her using her maiden name.

Neighbors and former co-workers were also concerned, and joined in the search to find Marsek last week. They handed out fliers outside a JCPenney in Johnsburg, where Marsek worked as a manager for five years.

Dan Marsek spoke publicly Saturday, at a candlelight vigil held by the community. He told Aneta and the girls that he loved them. He asked Aneta to bring the girls home soon.

Friday afternoon, the Fox Lake Fire Department's dive team searched retention ponds near Marsek's Volo home, and plan to return Saturday morning. The Law Enforcement Aviation Coalition and Illinois State Police conducted aerial searches.

Lake County police did not suspect foul play during the search.

The case has been referred to the Lake County State's Attorneys Office.
