TINLEY PARK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A 44-year-old man has been charged for allegedly trying to have sex with a 16-year-old girl after Tinley Park police posted a fake personal ad online.
Matthew G. Whitlock, of the 12400 block of S. 80th Ave. in Palos Park, faces a felony count of indecent solicitation of minor, according to a Tinley Park police report, adding that Whitlock allegedly confessed to police.
Tinley Park police posted a personal ad to Craiglist's "casual encounters" message board on Monday and pretended to be a teenage girl attending Lincoln Way North High School, the report said.
The post, entitled "Later in the week? Wild child looking," allegedly received a response from Whitlock the same day the message was posted, and Whitlock and undercover police began emailing each other, the report said.
Police sent Whitlock pictures of a female Tinley Park police officer when she was 16-years-old, the report said, and Whitlock allegedly proposed engaging in multiple sex acts.
Whitlock then allegedly asked to meet at an Arby's restaurant in Tinley Park and then get into his car and drive to a forest preserve, where they could have sex, the report said.
When Whitlock arrived at the Arby's on Thursday afternoon, he was met by a police sergeant, two detectives and a tactical officer, who took Whitlock into custody, the report said.
Whitlock was being held at the Will County Jail on Friday night.
