Amara Walker

Amara Walker spent seven years at the NBC-owned station in Miami as a weekend anchor/reporter before relocating to Chicago. During her time with NBC, She has also substituted as an anchor for NBC's "Early Today" show and MSNBC's "First Look," in addition to contributing live reports to MSNBC.

During her career as a journalist, Amara has covered a wealth of major stories including the 2012 Florida Republican Primary, 2010 Florida Governor's race, 2008 Presidential election, the death of Anna Nicole Smith, the 2006 NBA championship, and Super Bowl XLI. Amara also anchored live coverage of the capture of Osama Bin Laden and traveled to Haiti to report on the devastating January 2010 earthquake. She began her career at the NBC affiliate in Palm Springs, CA and then moved to Miami in the summer of 2005, just in time to travel to New Orleans and Biloxi, Mississippi to report on Hurricane Katrina.

Amara was born and raised in Orange County, CA. She is fluent in Korean and conversational in Spanish. During her spare time, Amara enjoys cooking, exploring local farmer's markets, reading a good biography, traveling, and golfing with her husband.

Amara is also an active member of the Asian American Journalists Association and an alumna of the University of Southern California where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a dual degree in political science and broadcast journalism.
