Man charged in Englewood squad car crash that injured cop

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A motorist was ordered held on an $800,000 bond Friday after being charged with crashing into a police vehicle - injuring three people including an officer - Wednesday night in Englewood.

Shawn James, 32, of the 7100 block of South Lowe, was charged with three counts of aggravated fleeing, possession of less than 2.5 grams of cannabis and DUI; and cited for driving with a revoked license, having no insurance, damage to public property and driving without headlights, according to police.

On Friday, Judge Daniel Sullivan ordered him held on $800,000, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin said. He will back in court Oct. 19.

James is accused of crashing into a police vehicle about 9:25 p.m. Wednesday in the 7600 block of South Union Avenue. Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle he was driving for a traffic violation, but James disobeyed a stop sign and struck another police vehicle, police said.

The officer inside the police car was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Two other people also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized, according to Fire Media Affairs.
