A vehicle hit a squad car in the South Side Englewood neighborhood Wednesday night, leaving a Chicago Police officer and at least one other person injured.
The crash happened near 75th Street and Union Avenue about 9:25 p.m., when police officers witnessed the vehicle violating a minor traffic law, said police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines, citing preliminary information.
Police officers tried pulling over the vehicle, Gaines said, and the vehicle ended up striking another squad car.
The officer in the damaged squad car suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Gaines said.
At least one person inside the vehicle that struck the squad car was also taken to Christ with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, Gaines said.
A spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department said a third person was also taken to Christ, but Gaines said it was not immediately clear if that person was the wounded police officer or another person inside the vehicle that hit the squad car.
Police arrested one person following the crash, Gaines said, adding that charges were pending Thursday morning.
The Chicago Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Unit continued collecting details of the accident Thursday morning.
