CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Police are searching for a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident Wednesday morning in north suburban Zion.

Parts recovered from the scene indicate the vehicle was a Red 2004-08 Scion XB, though recovered parts also fit some Toyota and Lexus vehicles. Police are checking with local body shops as part of the investigation.

The crash happened about 5:15 a.m. near the intersection of 33rd Street and North Geneva Lane, Zion police said. The victim was identified as Francisco Avila-Castro, 20, of 1200 block of Fulton Street in Waukegan.

About five minutes later, police received a call of a person lying in the roadway, in the 2400 block of 33rd Street, a release from Zion police said. According to the release, responding officers found one person - an adult male - dead on the scene with severe traumatic injuries.

Jeanine Reynolds said she goes out near the bike path every morning with her dog junior. There are no sidewalks on this stretch of road.

Reynolds believed the victim was walking in the street when he was hit. Police said the injuries and physical evidence appeared to be consistent with a hit-and-run vehicle/pedestrian accident.

Zion police said they found a lot of physical evidence and pieces of a vehicle they believe may have struck the victim. People who use the bike path in the area say its not always safe and it's time to be on alert.

Police are continuing to search for the vehicle involved in the crash.

Anyone with information on the accident or the vehicle should call police at (847) 746-4106.
