West Side residents protest YMCA closure

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Residents of Chicago's West Side are protesting the closure of a YMCA that served the community for almost 100 years.

The Austin "Y" on Central Avenue closed last week because of declining membership and an aging facility. Three YMCA's in the North Suburbs will also close in October.

Protesters say losing the Austin YMCA is a big blow to the community and community leaders met Monday night to form a plan to try and keep other institutions from leaving.
