CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
One more thing about Sunday's marathon. I know it's a great event for our city, and I know for many people running a marathon, it's a great accomplishment in human endurance and spirit. And, I realize the sense of pride that comes with completing the rigorous training necessary to complete the 26 mile course. But, speaking as someone who jogs no more than three miles a couple times a week----I just don't get it.
Usually when people successfully finish an athletic contest, you see a lot of fist pumping celebration, but people don't look so good when they finish a marathon.
From what I hear, next to 16-inch softball, marathons are the best thing that ever happened to orthopedic surgeons.
This year aside from the lost toenails, ten runners were taken to the hospital for skeletal and respiratory issues, and one 47-year-old man went into cardiac arrest.
Is it just a coincidence that on the back of The Tribune's page with the marathon story Monday, there's an ad for knee surgery and arthritis treatments? Just asking.
