CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Everything about Wednesday at Halas Hall was altered...early start, no real practice and very few players in the locker room. All throwing me off and I forgot my blog. Maybe I'm the only one who noticed, but there was plenty to talk about so let me recap.
For the second time in 4 weeks, Jay Cutler had to address his behavior on the sidelines when he did his best to avoid Mike Tice after a failed 3rd down conversion in the second quarter. He said "we talked about it because its so prevalent in the media right now, for whatever reason...it wasn't an issue then its not an issue now." Later he said he's not surprised by the media scrutiny-" it goes with the gig"...which is very true. But I'm starting to feel like Cutler is more scrutinized than any other quarterback in the league. Why? Because he's emotional? Because he doesn't care what anyone else thinks? Brandon Marshall says its because he's not like Tom Brady or Peyton Manning in the way he goes about things on and off the field. My question is, why doe we want him to be? Don't Bears fans ultimately want a guy who the locker room respects, and who wins games? He's won 8 of his last 9 starts. He's confident. It appears his teammates believe in him as a leader- though I don't think we'll ever hear the truth about everything that goes on during the game. If the team wins - does it matter? I mean how many of us get along with absolutely everyone we work with? be honest...
As for Tice, he wanted to quickly dispel any issue as well- admitting he was in Cutler's ear from the moment he walked off the field and thought maybe the QB had just had enough. I got the vibe if the cameras didn't catch the little "avoid-dance" neither of them would have said a word- to us or each other about it. Tice did say he felt the offense -himself included- thought a little too much of themselves after the week 1 win and are guarding against that heading into Jacksonville. Not a lot of coaches would admit that- so clearly the Green Bay debacle got the teams attention...even if it was week 2.
