An 18-year-old Kankakee County man who died three days after a traffic crash on I-57 near south suburban Monee on Sunday was intoxicated at the time of the crash, an autopsy has determined.
Kyle Richey was driving southbound on I-57 near Harlem Avenue in Monee when he lost control of his vehicle, according to Illinois State Police. Rickey drove into a ditch, where his vehicle rolled over.
Rickey and a passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital before being flown to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, state police said.
Rickey, of the 1200 block of Peacock Lane in Bradley, was pronounced dead at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
An autopsy Thursday found that he suffered multiple injuries from a motor vehicle accident and his death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner's office said. Alcohol intoxication was listed as a contributing factor in his death.
State police said the cause of the accident remained unknown early Thursday.
