Chicago to pay $3.4 million for wrongful conviction

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Chicago will pay $3.4 million to a man who spent eight years in prison for a murder he didn't commit.

The City Council's finance committee recommended the settlement.

Maurice Patterson was convicted of stabbing another man to death on the South Side in 2002. But DNA testing on the knife pointed to another man.

He told the Chicago Sun-Times that he never got the apology he hoped for.

Illinois State Police have also agreed to pay Patterson a settlement of $800,000.
