CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Former Bear Tommie Harris was arrested Monday night after confronting police officers who approached him as he was urinating outside a bar in the North Side Wrigleyville neighborhood.
Harris, 29, of Gurnee, was urinating outside a bar in the 1000 block of West Eddy Street at 11:52 p.m., when officers approached, News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
Harris became confrontational and threatened the officers, Mirabelli said.
He was arrested without incident and charged with indecent exposure, urinating in a public way and assault, all misdemeanors, Mirabelli said.
In a text message Tuesday, Harris declined to comment in detail, citing his attorney's advice, but said he looked forward to clearing the matter up.
The three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle for the Bears was released from the team in February 2011. Harris went on to play the 2011 season with the San Diego Chargers before being released. His wife, Ashley, 29, died last February due to a stroke or brain aneurysm.
