Bob Sirott's One More Thing about Brazil's election

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

One more thing, about an election in another country.

Brazil's municipal elections are this week, and judging by the names on the ballot, Barack Obama is very popular over there.

Brazilian elections have relaxed rules on what political candidates can call themselves and with 20 political parties in the country, it's hard to stand-out. So, sixteen Brazilian candidates have adopted the name "Obama." Ricardo Obama, and Wilson Obama are two of the people running for office using the president's name in hopes of getting recognition and more votes.

One candidate for councilman in a city in central Brazil going by the name Obama says there's so much corruption in politics that people sometimes prefer to vote for a candidate who isn't a real person.

That may explain why these names are also on the ballot in Brazil: Superman, Rambo, Santa Claus, two James Bonds, five Batmans and a Robin. But, so far, still no Romney.
