CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Two men and a female were critically wounded in a Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood shooting Monday evening on the South Side.

The group was standing in the 500 block of East 71st Street when a male approached on foot about 5 p.m. and shot the three, said police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada, citing preliminary information.

A 22-year-old man was shot in the upper torso, another 22-year-old man was shot in the left foot and back and a female was shot in the abdomen area, police said. The female's age was not immediately known.

Paramedics took two of the wounded to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and the third to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to Fire Media Affairs. All three were initially in critical condition.

The gunman ran away after the shooting and is not in custody Monday night, police said. Area Central detectives are investigating.
