The 17-year-old boy – identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Dejuan Jackson – was shot once in the head at 7:07 p.m. in the 4000 block of South Lake Park Avenue, police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti said.

Jackson, of the 3900 block of South Lake Park Avenue, had been walking with friends when the shooter opened fire, police and the medical examiner's office said.

He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 7:58 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

On Saturday morning, charges were approved against the 14-year-old, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

The 14-year-old, who police would not name because of his age, was charged as a juvenile with one count of first degree murder, one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm and two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, according to Mirabelli. He is expected to appear in court for a hearing Saturday.
