Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A Chicago man took the challenge of a marriage proposal to new heights.

Ryan Thompson, a commercial airline pilot, took his girlfriend Carlie Kennedy for a flight in his single-engine plane over the Windy City where he planned to propose. Unbeknownst to the bride-to-be, Thompson intended on tricking her in the process by making her believing the plane's controls were malfunctioning.

Halfway through the flight, he did just that—and handed over the emergency checklist for her to read.

Though visibly scared, Carlie continues to read the "ring engagement procedure." Written on the second page of the checklist was "Will you marry me?"

It took a few seconds for Carlie to realize it was all a hoax and the plane was not going to crash. Luckily for the pilot, she said yes.

The couple's video which Thompson recorded with a hidden camera in the console, has gotten thousands of hits on YouTube.
