Dionne Miller's 'Happenings from Halas' - September 28

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Bears are ranked 27th in total offense. The Cowboys are the leagues' No. 1 defense. So that's the storyline heading into Monday Night. It's a big stage for them to take a big step.

But slow starts have been an issue through the first three weeks. Jay Cutler said they can blame that on the offense adjusting to a new coordinator, new offense, a new plan.

It's going to take time for the Bears to be elite. More importantly, Cutler's going to need time to prove he is too. I'm talking about with the ball in his hands behind center.

The offensive line concerns me. The big face off this week is between J'Marcus Webb and DeMarcus Ware. You don't have to be an NFL insider to know - advantage Dallas. He's long, has a great first step and is relentless. Cutler says they have to keep him guessing and hopefully "off you". Tough to do.

Not to mention his compliment, Anthony Spencer has more QB pressures than Ware, which means double the rush - double the challenge. Not double the fun...

Michael Bush put it pretty bluntly.

"They have a great defense...you better be ready, if you're not ready, you're going to get your butt kicked," Bush said.

Yeah, that's what happened the last time the Bears were the only game on the road in primetime. Here's hoping for a different outcome.

Injury Updates: Matt Forte practiced again on Thursday and Lovie Smith again said he's making progress. Marshall said when Forte steps on the field it makes the Bears better. Tice was quick to point out the boost in pass protection that Forte brings. Something the Bears will need against this Cowboys defense.

Earl Bennet was limited in practice with a hand injury. Coaches decided to keep Julius Peppers out today. Evan Rodriguez is out with a knee injury and Patrick Mannelly is sick so he did not practice. Lovie was pretty confident Mannelly would be back to work Friday, but was asked about a back up plan at long snapper- Matt Spaeth would be in the mix.

Just good to know.

Final Thursday Thought: When asked about the excitement of playing a Monday night game, Brandon Marshall said, "Wide Receivers are divas so it allows us to show our diva-ness."

Great response...not sure its a word, but great response.
