Dionne Miller's 'Happenings from Halas' - September 27

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Back to work Wednesday for the Chicago Bears, but a different kind of schedule with the Monday night game. So Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall will talk on Thursday, defense Friday, etc.

Good news or rather view at practice was Matt Forte participating.

The Bears had worked out new Redskins back Ryan Grant on Tuesday, which had me thinking maybe Forte and Michael Bush are both too beat up for Dallas. But seeing Forte run through drills was promising and he says based on Wednesday, he will be ready to return Monday. He credits the quick return to taking good care of himself and a hyperbaric chamber he's been spending hours in. He's encouraged, fans should be too.

Forte does still have to get through a real practice and not have any additional swelling so time will tell, but even Lovie couldn't deny his "progress" is a great sign.

The rest of the days news came from reaction to the latest installment of "Don't Call the Refs."

The replacements horribly blown call Monday night in Seattle, did ultimately benefit the Bears. (Any Packers loss does) But that doesn't mean this team doesn't want the leagues best back on the field as soon as possible.

Player representative Adam Podlesh said it wasn't just the blown calls, it's a matter of safety for the players.

"The NFL players are the best players in the world playing this game, we've got the best coaches, we've got the best owners, lets put the best referees out on the field too, because everybody else deserves that I feel," Podlesh said.

Podlesh is right. But while the best in the business are on their couch, the "replacements" mess with the integrity of the game. I get why the deal has taken so long - the NFL is trying to make a point, but at the expense of what?

I do feel badly for the "replacements." I do. They're trying but are not qualified for what they've been thrown in to and we (as fans) expect more than they are clearly capable of. But it's time. We can't ignore the issues they are having, so it's officially time to welcome back Ed Hochuli and his gang. They've earned major respect through this. MAJOR!

I asked on Twitter how many head coaches will hug the real refs upon return. Best answer I got was from @JBDstarwars "31...everyone except Pete Carroll."

True, very true.
