Preckwinkle considers tax, fee hike to fill $115M budget hole

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is considering a series of moves to reduce a $115 million budget hole.

Preckwinkle proposes a series of user fees and taxes to eliminate the last quarter of a 1 percent sales tax imposed by Todd Stroger.

She also hopes to save money by leaving vacant positions unfilled, cutting health costs and having workers share cars and other equipment.

The board president said there are no plans right now for a property tax increase.
