CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Ald. Sandi Jackson (7th) referred to the media as "jackals" at a fundraising event Tuesday night and said her husband was at home and doing well.

"The jackals are outside. Let them stay outside," she shouted into a microphone, referring to the press staked outside a birthday fundraising bash. "We are family in here . . . it's because of you all that I keep it going on."

Jackson, who could be heard outside Park 52 restaurant, said if she were wearing more makeup lately it was a sign: "this girl is under pressure."

She thanked supporters for helping her deal with the issues that had befallen her family of late.

"My husband is at home. He is feeling better," she said to applause.

One TV reporter was allowed into the event. Jackson was still at the event late Tuesday.

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., the alderman's husband, has been on leave from Congress since June. He was diagnosed with bipolar depression.

Sandi Jackson celebrated her birthday singing into the microphone and dancing with guests as "Let's Get it Started" blasted over the speakers.

According to people who attended the private event that cost up to $5,000 a ticket, about 200 people filled the restaurant.
