Apple crop smaller, but sweeter this year

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Apples being produced in the Midwest this year will be sweeter than in past years because of the drought and heat we had this summer.

The lack of moisture forced the trees to focus more sugar and carbohydrates in their fruit than they do in a normal season.

The crop will also be much smaller this year.

Some Michigan apple farmers say only 11 percent of their crop has survived.

That will mean fewer apples and higher prices.
