CTU strike over, 'play ball' for CPS athletes

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The strike is over, and that means it's "play ball" for Chicago Public School athletes.

Interscholastic prep sports programs have resumed and teams are practicing again, after teachers ended their seven-school day strike and classes resumed Wednesday.

Games and matches were canceled during the strike, but officials said they've been able to reschedule many of them - and CPS athletes are still eligible for state tournaments.

Some football games will already be played this weekend.

About 11,000 students play fall sports.

IHSA rules ban athletic activity during teacher strikes. Chicago school officials asked the IHSA for a waiver last week, but the IHSA denied the request.
