CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Detectives are questioning two persons of interest in connection with a robbery Thursday morning outside of a CTA bus garage that left a retired transit worker critically wounded.
About 8:50 a.m., the retired worker was walking to a credit union bank inside a CTA bus garage in the 600 block of North Pulaski Road, authorities said. The man planned on depositing a "large sum" of money, a police source said.
The man instead ended up getting shot in the thigh during a robbery, according to police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
At a gas station at Washington and Pulaski, officers later found a vehicle matching the description of the van seen driving away from the scene, News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.
Two males of unknown age were taken into custody and were being questioned by detectives, police said, adding that charges had not been filed as of late Thursday afternoon.
CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said the transit agency is cooperating with police.
