ST. CHARLES, Ill. (FOX 32 News) -

Police in west suburban St. Charles warn residents of a new telephone scam.

Three St. Charles residents have been bilked by the so called "grandparent scam" this year.

The latest victim reported the theft on Monday.

In the scam, elderly people get a call from someone claiming to be a grandson who says that they were arrested for driving under the influence in a foreign country.

The caller then asks the grandparent to wire them money so they can be released from jail. Most of the calls came from Canada and Mexico.
