CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
A certified nursing assistant was arrested for allegedly stealing jewelry from the homes of her mentally or physically impaired patients.
A man reported to authorities in Jan. 2010 that some of his wife's jewelry was missing but she was currently in the hospital and couldn't speak to officers, according to a release from the Cook County Sheriff's office.
His wife contacted officers several months later with the names of caregivers who'd been assigned to take care of her home, the release said. During an investigation, sheriff's officers discovered that one caregiver had been a customer for the past four years of Arlington Heights Jewelry and Loan. Several items from the victim's home were pawned at the store.
Krisann Henderson, 42, of Arlington Heights, was brought in for questioning Friday and admitted to stealing from her clients who were mentally or physically impaired for five years, the release said. She'd worked as a certified nurse assistant since 1987.
Henderson stole more than $25,000 worth of valuables from her patients, including a 35-karat aqua marine stone broach, 10-karat gold tennis bracelet with 35 round diamonds, pearl necklace and additional items, the release said.
Six pieces have currently been reported missing and three have been recovered. So far three victims of Henderson have been found with more expected, the release said.
Bond was set Monday at $5,000 for Henderson.
Any possible victims should contact Cook County Sheriff's Police Investigations Section at (708) 865-4896.
