Bond was set at $1.5 million for a parolee with a long criminal history charged Monday with murdering a young woman in a luxury Gold Coast hotel last month.

But 28-year-old LaMarcus Washington won't be getting out of jail soon, as he was taken into custody by the Illinois Dept. of Corrections for a parole violation just days after the murder.

Washington, of Chicago, was charged Monday night with one count of first-degree murder for the death of 22-year-old Brianna Gardner, who was found shot to death Aug. 13 at the Whitehall Hotel at 105 E. Delaware Pl., authorities said.

He was arrested Aug. 14 for a parole violation and booked into the Illinois Department of Corrections on Aug. 16, according to IDOC. Investigators used the time to establish forensic evidence in the murder case, authorities said.

He was being held at Menard Correctional Center in Menard, and was transferred to the Cook County Jail on Tuesday to attend the bond hearing, where he was ordered held on $1.5 million and a preliminary hearing was set for Oct. 3, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's office.

Housekeeping staff at the boutique hotel found Gardner's body in a seventh-floor room, according to police and hotel guests.

Court records show Gardner was arrested on a prostitution charge in Chicago earlier in August. She was on the sidewalk soliciting men about 3:20 a.m. on Aug. 8 at 25 W. Hubbard St., police said. She also was charged with prostitution in April in Harris County, Texas.

One person was initially taken into custody after the murder, and authorities said that person was Washington.

Chicago Police say they have arrested Washington 20 times on various charges and he has been convicted eight times, authorities said. He was sentenced to prison for three of his adult arrests.

IDOC records indicate he was sentenced to five years for residential burglary in 2003; two years for aggravated battery with a weapon in 2005; and six years for a drug charge in 2007. He was on parole from the drug charge at the time of the murder.
