CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police are seeking the public's help in finding a vehicle wanted for fatally striking a man fleeing from robbers early Sunday in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood.

Armando Mendoza, of Cicero, was walking with a 27-year-old man in the 2700 block of South Kedvale Avenue at 5 a.m. when four to five men tried robbing them, authorities said.

The men split up while running from the robbers, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said. The 27-year-old man found Mendoza in the street, authorities said, and he appeared to have been hit by a vehicle.

Mendoza, who was in his 30s, was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 5:38 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The robbers fled southbound on Kedvale Avenue in a white Ford Taurus, Perez said.

The police have issued a community alert seeking a 2000-2005 white Ford Taurus with damage to the passenger side headlight.

Anyone with information should contact the police Major Accidents Investigations Unit at (312) 745-4521.
