Time Out Chicago's Marissa Conrad takes you around the globe from Germany to Mexico with festive celebrations of each culture.
You'll also get the chance to party like Alice in Wonderland and eat all the bacon you want this weekend. See below for Marissa's top picks this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
For three days John C. Kluczynski Federal Plaza plays the role of Munich, Germany, in Berghoff's restaurant version of the world's largest fair. Take in live music, German beer and Bavarian food. Celebrate the eve of Mexican Independence Day with at Mercadito, who's bringing in a late-night DJ for the occasion. Go down the rabbit hole at Chicago Gateway Green's Alice in Wonderland– themed benefit that swaps the rote black ties for verdant dopplegangers. Nosh on food from Frog & Snail, GT Fish & Oyster and Public House. Pete Wentz spins. Proceeds help raise money for greening the city's expressways, gateways and neighborhoods. Folks will be making bacon (pardon us for conjuring up any images of the "humorous" vintage T-shirt of two pigs getting it on) at the Chicago Bacon Takedown. Sample what 20 cooks can do with 15 pounds of bacon each. Last year's recipes featured hot chocolate with bacon marshmallows, bacon toffee lollipops and barbecue bacon chestnuts.
