Bob Sirott's One More Thing about the President Obama-hugging pizza owner

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

One more thing, about what happened to Scott Van Duzer.

He's the owner of the Florida pizza place who lifted President Obama off the ground in a bear-hug last Sunday.

His fifteen minutes of fame is still not up yet---and it's turned negative.

This completely spontaneous bit of enthusiasm on the part of Van Duzer--who is by all accounts a good community minded citizen whose charitable work includes supporting blood drives--has been met with a frenzy of controversy and internet protests.

Van Duzer, a Republican businessman, has been called a traitor by some conservatives for embracing a man accused of being an enemy of free enterprise.

Nasty reviews about his restaurant suddenly appeared on Yelp. Comments were also posted saying things like "shame on you for thumbing your nose at all the small business owners this president has disrespected." Some suggested a boycott of his pizza place.

Has everyone in this election year gone nuts?

Are we all so politically polarized we'll only watch the cable channels we agree with, just read the columnists who have the same opinions we do, and don't get that it's a thrill and an honor to have the president of our United States--no matter who he is--visit your place of business?

Scott van duzer says he got caught up in the moment. I say good for him,  it was refreshing to see.

Can't we hug a president or eat a Chick-Fil-a  in this country without starting a major protest movement.
