Rev. Jackson: Son shouldn't rush back to work

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

The Rev. Jesse Jackson says he expects his congressman son to take his time in getting back to work.

Congressman Jesse Jackson was released from Minnesota's Mayo Clinic last week. He had been seeking treatment for bipolar disorder and had been on medical leave since June 10.

The Chicago Democrat has been with his family in Washington and declined interview requests. Jackson's spokesman, Frank Watkins, said Sunday that he has no further information on the congressman's condition or if he will return to work on Monday.

The elder Jackson told reporters Saturday that he hopes his son hasn't left Mayo too early. He says that his son's illness doesn't lend itself to setting a time table.

The congressman is seeking re-election in November. He first won office in 1995.
