Defense first is what built 'da-Bears'. Winning a title in 2012 will be about the offense. No question the NFL has become a passing quarterbacks league. (Hello 5500 yards from Drew Brees last year- Seriously?!) But for the first time in...well a long time- the Bears have the tools to compete the same way. Cutler has every reason to be excited about that.
Especially because of the reunion he's enjoying with Brandon Marshall.
Who is equally in bliss. But his expectations are higher than anyone. He said today "I expect to be the best on the best team." Obviously, step one in proving he is on one will be winning week one. But armed or not, the success of the offense is all about the O-line. Roberto Garza admitted they are still a work in progress. We knew that. Cutler said Offensively, they can only do as much as the O-line can handle.
Mike Tice- never mincing words- said: he likes where the line is going...not where they are at, where they are going. Great point. And thank goodness they have another week before Green Bay.
Injury Report: Lorenzo Booker was held out of practice today with a head injury. Not called a concussion, but a head injury. Chris Conte
(Shoulder) and Adam Podlesh (Hip Flexor) had limited participation.
Podlesh spoke with the media for about 18 seconds and said today felt good and his availability for week 1 is not out of the question. Lovie said the same thing. Brian Urlacher as listed under "Full Participation". Which is exactly as is sounds according to the head coach- No limitations in his prep for week 1.
Fun Stuff: So Vanderbilt visits Northwestern on Saturday night in Evanston...4 Vandy Grads on the Bears, 3 from Northwestern. Cutler showed loyalty to his Alma Mater wearing a Vandy hat to the press conference. Saying the Commodores will win by 3 "more speed...it's SEC".
Vandy Grad, DJ Moore was asked who's smarter Northwestern Grads or Vanderbilt grads. Moore- always honest, admitted he's not the smartest guy- smarter than guys at Florida State, but the academics at Vandy were challenging...it's why when he got good {at football} he left. Ha!
Northwestern grad Sherrick McManis told me Monday the trash talking will happen...I suspect we'll see a little more purple on Thursday.
