ROYAL OAK, Mich. (MyFoxDetroit) -

A real life cowboy arrived on horse in Michigan… all the way from Texas. Leslie Fender made the 3,500-mile trip on horseback, just to see his favorite doctor.

Several Target shoppers spotted Fender as he rode through the parking lot. He was on his way to Royal Oak for a doctor's appointment with Dr. Graham Long, a vascular specialist. Fender says the doctor saved his life years ago.

Fender made the trip with two horses, Angel and Cherokee, both 7-years old.  He switched horses every two days, riding 35 miles per day. He says he would take as many secondary roads as he could and tried to stay out of big cities.

After his doctor's appointment he, Angel, and Cherokee are moving to Alabama.  But he says he will always return to Michigan when it's time for his check-up.
