Woman fatally shot in Hazel Crest

CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE: A woman died early Monday after being shot in south suburban Hazel Crest.

The victim, whose identity was not being released as of late Tuesday morning, was fatally shot in the 18100 block of South Kedzie Avenue in Hazel Crest, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The shooting occurred about 4:15 a.m., Hazel Crest police Chief Tom Folliard said.

The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 5:02 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

Her identity is not being released pending notification of relatives.

Hazel Crest police are interviewing witnesses and people of interest, Folliard said. The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force in the investigation.
