An expert's testimony in the trial of a man accused of killing his wife and three children indicate bullet holes show someone wrapped a jacket around the handgun allegedly used in the shooting.

Illinois State police firearms analyst Nicole Fundell testified Thursday that Christopher Vaughn's jacket had bullet holes in front and back as well as its left sleeve. She showed how the size and location of the holes indicated the jacket had been wrapped around a gun.

Will County prosecutors are expected to argue Vaughn used the jacket when he shot himself after murdering his family.

Prosecutors say Vaughn of Oswego killed his family so he could start a new life in Canada.

Vaughn's attorneys say his wife, Kimberly, committed the crimes because she was distraught over marriage troubles.

WITNESS: VAUGHN 'UPBEAT' AFTER RECALLING WIFE SHOT HIM

An Illinois State Police sergeant testified Wednesday that an Illinois man accused of shooting his wife and three children to death became "more upbeat" during a police interview after suddenly recalling that his wife had shot him.

Jurors heard the testimony in the murder trial of Christopher Vaughn in Will County Circuit Court.

Sgt. Gary Lawson finished three days on the witness stand. Jurors now have watched more than eight hours of videotaped police interviews of Vaughn from the day of the 2007 shootings on a frontage road near Channahon.

Prosecutors say Vaughn, of Oswego, killed his family as part of a scheme to start a new life in Canada.

Vaughn's attorneys say his wife, Kimberly, carried out the shootings because she was distraught over marriage troubles.
