CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Candle flames flickered in front of Michael Jackson's childhood home in Gary, Indiana, as dozens of fans and family gathered to remember the King of Pop on what would have been his 54th birthday.

His mother Katherine, sister Latoya, nephew TJ, and three children--Prince, Paris, and Blanket—were all present.

Earlier in the day, MJ's fans danced outside his home; some even traveling from outside Indiana.

15-year-old Prince Jackson and his 14-year-old sister, Paris, were presented with "I love Gary" t-shirts by the mayor. Blanket was not preset.

Paris tweeted a poem today about her father, which read: "Thru my joy & my sorrow , in the promise of another 2morro , i'll never let u apart for ur always in my heart… happy birthday i love u daddy."

Latoya also took to Twitter. She revealed it was her first time back at her family's home in 20 years.

"It saddens me 2 know that we can lose a love 1 N a split second. Life is short! Life is precious! Life is love yet life is gone. MJ we love U"

Michael Jackson died on June 25th 2009 from acute Propofol intoxication.

It's a difficult time for the Jacksons as they continue to clash over Michael's estate with his executors. Fans, like Diana Foley, are focusing on his legacy.

"He changed my life and a lot of other people's lives."

Fan Raquel Jean Joseph says Michael Jackson's legacy is left behind in his music and positive messages.

"It's sad I thought he should have been able to perform another 10 years,"
