The Talker: Is Chipotle stealing your money – or just saving time?

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Is a little bit of time worth a little bit of money?

A move by the restaurant Chipotle aims to make its lines move more quickly by rounding its customers' bills to the nearest nickel.

They started doing this in some of their busiest stores in New York, New Jersey, and Boston, rounding some bills up and others down.

Chipotle's lines are often long, but move fast and they take speed seriously. The rounding, which is applied only to customers who pay in cash, was to limit the combinations of change cashiers had to handle and make things move even quicker.

At first, Chipotle wasn't telling its customers about the rounding, but they've since changed that policy. They now always rounds down to the nearest nickel and the rounding is now noted on receipts.

No Illinois or Indiana restaurants ever had rounding.

What do you think of the rounding idea? Would you mind paying a little extra for a slightly quicker line? Sound off on the MyFoxChicago Facebook page.
