Warrenville man charged for sexually abusing 5-year-old cousin

Posted: Updated:

A west suburban man convicted or sexually abusing his five-year-old cousin was sentenced Friday to 24 years in prison.

Adrian Ramirez-Alcantar, 30, of Warrenville, was convicted in April of two counts of felony predatory criminal sexual assault and one county of felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to a release from the Kane County State's Attorney's office.

Ramirez-Alcantar molested the child while he stayed with the child's family at their Aurora home the summer of 2000, according to the release. The child was 5-years-old at the time, and is a distant cousin of her abuser.

The child told others about the abuse more than 10 years later when she saw Ramirez-Alcantar for the first time in a number of years, according to the release.

In today's sentencing, Ramirez-Alcantar saw the victim and threatened her, according to the release.

Circuit Judge David R. Akemann sentenced Ramirez-Alcantar to ten years for each of the predatory charges and four years for the abuse charge. He will serve them consecutively, and Illinois law requires he serve at least 85 percent of the predatory sentence. He is eligible for day-for-day credit on the four-year abuse sentence.
