Rep. Joe Walsh bothered by lack of GOP support for Todd Akin

YORKVILLE, Ill. (Associated Press) -

Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh says Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin's comments about rape were "idiotic" and "insulting," but he's questioning why fellow Republicans haven't stood up for him.

Walsh says there's always a rush of judgment, and he's bothered by Republicans' lack of support for Akin.

The Missouri congressman has refused calls from within the GOP to drop his bid to challenge Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill. He made the remarks in an interview while defending his opposition to abortion in all circumstances.

Other Illinois Republicans including U.S. Reps. Judy Biggert, Robert Dold and Peter Roskam have criticized Akin's statements.

Walsh is seeking re-election in November but running in a different more Democrat-friendly district because of a congressional remap. He faces Iraq war veteran and former Obama administration official Tammy Duckworth.
