2 young men dead after Chicago Lawn shooting

CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE: Two people are dead following a shooting on the Southwest Side Tuesday evening.

The two males were shot in the 5900 block of South Francisco Avenue at 6:53 p.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

A 22-year-old man was shot in the head, police said.

Darryl A. Manns, 22, of the 5900 block of South Francisco Avenue, was dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

A 15-year-old boy was shot in the back and buttocks and initially taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, but he later died there, police said.

Alejandro Valdez, 15, of the 5900 block of South Talman Avenue, was pronounced dead at 11:51 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

The pair was walking when a male shot them, police said.

A possible shooter was seen fleeing the scene wearing a grey tank top and black jeans, Zala said. Details on what prompted the shooting were not known.

The No. 59 59th/61st Street bus is running its regular route as of 9:20 p.m. The busses were rerouted for an hour in the area because of the police activity, according to the CTA.

Area South detectives are investigating.

No one was in custody early Wednesday.
