ATLANTA -
The city of Atlanta honored married civil rights icons Joseph and Evelyn Lowery on Monday.
City leaders honored the couple for their more than 50 years of work and commitment to civil and human rights.
The Lowerys founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. Lowery used the honor to pay tribute to his wife, who founded the SCLC-Women and was an activist in her own right. She worked alongside her husband in the 1950's and marched with him in Selma and countless other locations .
