Thousands of Georgia voters will go to the polls on Tuesday to decide runoffs from the July primaries.
One of the most closely watched contests is the Clayton County sheriff race where incumbent Kem Kimbrough faces a challenge from former sheriff, Victor Hill.
The two faced each other in a debate on V-103 and WAOK-FM radio on Monday.
Hill wants to regain the office he once held despite an indictment earlier this year on felony charges. He denies the accusations and contends Sheriff Kimbrough instigated the charges.
But the sheriff says the case against Hill was put together by a special prosecutor from outside Clayton County.
Eight candidates were on the ballot in the July primary.
Kimbrough got 42 percent of the vote, Hill had 37 percent.
A victory by Hill would leave several questions. While he has not been convicted, his law enforcement certification has been suspended and the governor could move to suspend Hill from office and appoint an interim sheriff.
Both men say they could help Clayton County restore its standing.
"We're tired of being a laughing stock. We're tired of being in the news for foolishness. And we're tired of self-serving politicians. We need people in office who keep the citizens of Clayton County forefront in their minds," said Kimbrough.
"This race is about who is best suited to fight the crime, to run the criminals out of Clayton County, and I submit to you I am that man. Not just by my past record, but by the strategic plan that I have planned going forward," said Hill.
The runoff winner will have no Republican opposition on the ballot in November.
