COLUMBUS, Ga. -

The Columbus Museum is about to add portraits of George and Martha Washington to its collection.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that Aflac Inc. chairman and CEO Dan Amos and his wife Kathelen donated the portraits of the nation's first president and his wife. The paintings by renowned American artist Rembrandt Peale are more than 160 years old.

Kathelen Amos is a former chairwoman of the museum's board and said history is her passion. She said the paintings can be used to educate and inform people of all ages.

The Amoses, who collect American art, bought the portraits in May during a visit to art galleries in New York.

The museum, which is about to mark its 60th anniversary, has a collection of 14,000 paintings and other artifacts.
