Drought conditions across the area remain unchanged

The latest drought numbers show little if any relief from the recent rains across the Chicago area.
One bright spot is a small area along the Lake Michigan shoreline in northwest Indiana where conditions are now considered abnormal which is down from moderate.
Extreme and exceptional drought conditions continue down state for both Illinois and Indiana. Year-to-date through August 15th the rainfall deficits across Chicago range from nearly 5" below average at O'Hare to more than 9" below at Midway, 9" below in Aurora and more than 6" below in Valparaiso. Little or no additional rain is expected through the weekend and 1st half of next week.

Warm, moist air streamed into the Chicago area today and although we were blanketed in fog and clouds, the temperatures soared to record highs between 68 and 72 degrees.
