CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A West Englewood neighborhood man was mauled to death by his pit bulls Wednesday night at his South Side home.

The man – identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as 44-year-old Charles Hagerman – suffered a fatal neck injury in his home in the 5600 block of South Racine Avenue when at least one of his pit bulls attacked him, police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety said.

Hagerman's wife found him unresponsive at their home near their two dogs about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday and called authorities, police said. Animal Care and Control personnel secured the dogs and removed them from the home.

A Thursday autopsy determined Hagerman died of multiple injuries from a dog attack and the death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner's office.
