CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
What a day. I heard Mully and Hanley ran my interview with Brian Urlacher during their morning show and then proceeded to talk about it. I'm a big fan of Mully who I've known for 30 years going all the way back to our Loyola University days. I've always respected Brian's work and think the pair have "nailed it" on Chicago sports talk. Anyway, when they run your interview, that's a good thing because they have one of the biggest audiences of any show on radio.
At about 10 a.m., the Tribune's Brad Biggs broke the story that Brian Urlacher had arthroscopic knee surgery and then things got crazy. We at FOX had no idea Brian was going to have surgery Tuesday morning. He denied his knee was scoped during our interview and didn't respond to a text I sent him Monday night. Obviously, getting the Bears to react to Urlacher's surgery news was most important. First Lance Briggs, then Nick Roach, Lovie, Bob Babich and Tim Jennings. Everyone is of the belief, Brian will be back for the opener September 9 against the Colts. So am I. Urlacher couldn't shake the pain and surgery was his last resort. He's 34-years-old and playing in the last year of his contract. No one needs to be out there more than Brian.
I hit the practice field at 2 p.m. for about an hour. When I realized the guys were going to work out in "shells," I took off.
I'll sit down with Brian Thursday night on FOX Chicago News at Nine so make sure you watch following the Bengals - Falcons game.

Thunderstorms rolled through Bourbonnais as the Bears prepared for their final practice of training camp.
Thunderstorms rolled through Bourbonnais as the Bears prepared for their final practice of training camp, forcing the morning walk-through indoors and our interviews into the coffee shop. And as the players began filing in for lunch, there were two hot topics.

It's the eve of the Bears season. Well, the pre-season. It's also the birthday of Jay Cutler's first child - a boy - Camden Jack. Let the storybook season begin, right?

With one week before the first pre-season game against Denver, questions began to be asked about the offensive line… well, they've been asked all along, just today they were louder.

After Monday's off day, we tackled a long one at training camp. Starting in the Kitchen here at Olivet Nazarene University.
After Monday's off day, we tackled a long one at training camp. Starting in the Kitchen here at Olivet Nazarene University. Shout out to Jeff Hilligoss- the GM of Sodexo who talked us through preparation for 90 plus NFL players. Not a total shocker, but he said the lineman eat really well…"not just what's on their plates, but how many plates they clean". Ha!

With all due respect to Theo Epstein - football is better with pads on. Just sayin'! So for the second straight day, the Bears practiced with full pads.
